I’m back!

As some of you know, I have been on hiatus here for quite some time, as I was writing for another music blog full-time. While I plan my next steps, I’ll be returning to write here for a bit.

Bands/publicists, please send new music to me. Would love to write some album reviews!

New Music Now: Jason Derulo/Katy Perry & Kanye West Mash-Up

A few weeks back, I reviewed Jason Derulo’s new album, Future History. When I got to the track “Bleed Out,” I wrote:

“Bleed Out” begins with heavy breathing and airy vocals before launching into what sounds like the beat from Katy Perry‘s “E.T.” (can someone make a mash-up of these two, please?)

Well, when I checked for this mash-up on YouTube this morning, nothing came up. So, I decided to make one myself. I’ve never done this before and have no idea what I’m doing, but I think it sounds pretty neat 🙂

Album Review: Evanescence – Evanescence (iTunes Deluxe Version)

In recent years, while many had forgotten the name Evanescence (or thought the group had broken up), those of us who have been fans since the beginning were waiting patiently for new material. The band remained completely silent, hardly ever updating fans on what was going on. Writing for the album began in 2009, but due to the band changing producers and wanting to write more material, the release date kept getting pushed back.

It’s been five years since the release of the group’s second album, The Open Door, and eight since the release of debut Fallen. Now, Evanescence present us with their self-titled LP, a pounding, rollercoaster ride of an album that will command your attention for its entirety.

Rest In Peace: The Academy Is…

According to a post on their Facebook page, The Academy Is… have called it quits.

The band’s statement reads:

“After nine years and three albums, The Academy Is… have decided to go our separate ways.
We began in 2003 as three young friends in the suburbs of Chicago, with dreams of creating music that meant something to us. Dreams of leaving those suburbs behind and seeing all of the beautiful things that this world has to offer. Dreams of making a difference in the lives of others.

It is now 2011 and we look back at the records we’ve made, the shows we’ve played, the places we’ve been.
The people we’ve met.

The Academy Is… has made its mark.
We celebrate the experiences of our past, as we welcome what lies ahead.
While we have never managed to make things easy on ourselves, it is safe to say that we have always found common ground in our love of music.
And though we may not be together, you can look forward to hearing new music from each of us.

The music we have made together is our gift to you. From this point on, The Academy Is… belongs to you. Feel free to listen. Listen as loud as you’d like.

The Academy Is…”

Rest In Peace, Steve Jobs

Former Apple CEO and true visionary Steve Jobs has passed away at the age of 56. Jobs had been battling pancreatic cancer for several years, which had forced him to resign from his position as CEO earlier this year. In his lifetime, he introduced the world to such groundbreaking products as the Mac computer, iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Check out NPR’s article on Jobs’ incredible career and how his brilliant mind has changed the world forever. RIP, Steve!
