New Music Now: I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody’s Business

Though the breakup of The Early November back in 2007 was a huge disappointment for thousands of fans, Ace Enders has yet to let us down.

Always working hard to please both his fans and himself, Ace has recently released a new track from his side project, I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody’s Business, and announced that a new album will be coming out this March. The new song is called “Old Man…You’re Not” and can be heard on the band’s MySpace page (which has taken the place of A Million Different People’s page….hmmm….).

The former TEN frontman has been a solo artist since the breakup, releasing two albums under the name Ace Enders and a Million Different People; 2008’s The Secret Wars (which was released for free download by FuseTV) and 2009’s When I Hit the Ground. The second album picked up where TEN left off, with added pop/rock mentality, and was a big favorite for the year. In between these two releases, Ace teamed up with fellow scene-leaders Craig Owens, Alex Gaskarth, Mark Hoppus, Kenny Vasoli and more to record a cover of “Bittersweet Symphony” as a way to benefit VH1’s Save the Music Foundation.

Now, Ace is self-releasing the I Can Make a Mess album, the group’s first release since their self-titled back in 2004. The album was a huge success, spawning singles “The Best Happiness Money Can Buy” and “So I Finally Decided to Give Myself a Reason.” Similar to TEN’s The Path, the third disc in their final triple-disc installment, The Mother, The Mechanic & The Path, I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody’s Business had an abstract element to it and plays almost as a concept album. Each song, up until the appropriately-titled “The End of the Background Noise,” has television noise playing behind it. Songs range from joyful country tunes (“Best Happiness”) to simple acoustic tracks (“An Oak Tree Stands Beside a Linden”) and powerful rock drivers like “Track 8” (five of the tracks are untitled).

The news of a new ICMAMLNB album came as a wonderful surprise to many die-hard Ace fans (myself included), as he had claimed several times that the self-titled album would most likely be the only one.
