News Flash: Chiodos’ New Singer Announced, Along with Craig Owens’ New Project

According to blogger SupJustin, Chiodos’ lead singer is Brandon Bolmer of Yesterday’s Rising. According to Justin, there’s no word on whether or not Bolmer will stay in Yesterday’s Rising or leave completely to pursue Chiodos, though I can’t imagine them allowing him to stay after their difficulty working with their former singer, Craig Owens, as he tried his hand at being a triple frontman PLUS solo artist.

The new Craig Owens?

This news comes suddenly after the band announced their participation in California’s Bamboozle Left festival, where the lead singer was to be announced (and, I assume, introduced for the first time at their set).

I checked out YR’s page and like Bolmer’s voice, but I’m not sure if he’ll have the theatrical and dramatic vocal stylings of Owens, who I’m a big fan of- specifically in his work with Chiodos and the supergroup Isles & Glaciers (we’re STILL waiting for that EP, you know…). I liked Cinematic Sunrise‘s album, but I wasn’t a fan of his solo album, purely because I believe his voice felt weak and timid. I feel as though he’s much more in his element when shrieking and growling in front of a hardcore band.

Along with this news, SupJustin also posted that Owens has a new project with Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, which will be making its debut this month. The group will be signed to Decaydance Records and managed by Crush Management.

Craig Owens and Pete Wentz - toasting to a successful future?

An apparently peeved Mike Shea of Alternative Press commented on Twitter (part one, part two) that, “Many of us knew the deets behind Chiodos & Craig’s plans, but were asked by the artists to keep quiet until they were ready on their ends…this sort of cooperation happens all the time in the business… but competitive nature of web means that goes out the door frequently.”

What are your thoughts on this? Do you prefer Bolmer over Owens?
